  I do system administration on HP-UX and AIX machines; sometimes (if I'm lucky) from home on my Linux box. From there I have a well built telnet and xterm that handle the conversion fairly well. Often, however, I'm forced to work from a client's NT workstation, which is where you come in.

  I have to telnet into these boxes (no X protocol allowed on the LAN!), export TERM to something reasonable for both ends, reset, and run sam (HP-UX 10.20), or smitty (the tty based version of AIX 3.2.5 and 4.1 smit).

  Understand, ALL I REALLY WANT IS ACCURATE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STANDARD PROTOCOL. I'm not a bells and whistles kind of guy. I don't need balloon help, or advanced scripting features. I just need tools that will do the minimum of lying to me, and maximum of communicating of relevant information. I want bulletproof accuracy and consistency, not feeping creaturism. I'm playing with machines that control whether trains crash into each other. I've no time for tools that don't tell me the full, accurate, current picture. And yes, powerterm does this well enough to satisfy me. Thanks. Nice price, too. :-)

  I had been using NetTerm and it's pretty good, but controlling its configuration is best done by hand editing the .ini files. I've not yet had to resort to that with pterm. I'm sure it will come, but at the moment I'm willing to settle for your ease of configuration so far. I REALLY APPRECIATE how you've made the mouse buttons act like real mouse buttons; cut and paste in pterm works just like my Linux xterm mouse works. And I'm left handed! Thank you! Nice work."

  Some users like PowerTerm emulations better than the real thing:

  • "The PowerTerm Wyse 60 emulation is better than a true Wyse 60. Switching between 132 and 80 column mode does not erase the other screens in multiscreen mode like a Wyse 60 does. The cut and paste between screens for small blocks of data is very convenient. The Wyse 60 on my desk went down, and was sent in for repair. The repaired Wyse 60 is still in its box, because I don't want it taking up any of my desk space. PowerTerm is simply a terrific product!"
  • "I've been very impressed by PowerTerm. It is actually faster than the console attached to our Data General AViiON! "
  • "First of all, I have to say you have a first-rate product. I especially like the ease with which the user can store and make selections of connection sites. Something I think is a particularly nice intervention is the use of a dialog box for System Request functions, instead of leaving them down on the bottom line as the 5250 does. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it to you, but depending on color combinations and the positioning of the panel(s) you have open, the traditional line can be nearly impossible to see.
